Tell us a bit about yourself.
My wife Luisa and I have one child named Nicolas and another baby boy on the way. I currently live in Cincinnati, Ohio, but I was born in Syracuse, New York, and grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. I am an avid sports fan and enjoy traveling.
Why and when did you decide to earn an MHA degree?
I decided a year ago that I wanted to start making a shift from the payer side to the hospital side. I felt that the experience I gained with Humana in managed care could be an asset for a hospital system. I also felt that I could help by effectively being a voice for the needs of seniors who are now immersed in this new form of health care that we are embarking on as a nation. I have seven years of frontline experience with this population and feel that I understand their needs. A Master of Health Administration will make me a more desirable candidate in that field and give me the knowledge I need to be successful in my career.
Why did you decide to pursue the MHA@GW program?
I decided on MHA@GW because of its credibility and reputation. The program has an obvious proximity to the capital, which allows access to the policymakers affecting health care. Also, the GW faculty are some of the leading experts in the field.
I am excited that I am able to be in an online program that still affords me the student and facility interaction I desire through immersions and the classroom live sessions.
What excites you most about the program?
There are many aspects of the program that excite me. I am excited about the possibilities this program will offer me to further my career and allow me to help people. I am excited to learn from some of the top experts in health care. I am excited that I am able to be in an online program that still affords me the student and facility interaction I desire through immersions and the classroom live sessions. I am excited that I have another team to root for hopefully come tournament time. In all seriousness, I am excited about all aspects of the program and would recommend it to anyone on the fence.
Do you have a favorite module and professor?
So far I have enjoyed module two, Information Technology and Decision Science, the most. The reason is because I was very “green” to health information technology, and I feel that I have learned a lot from the course.
