MHA@GW Student Spotlight: Angelo Paulo Alano

Title: Program Specialist, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences

While earning an Executive Master of Health Administration from MHA@GW, Angelo Paulo Alano is working several different jobs. He serves in the following roles:

  • Program specialist at the Department of Medicine/Infectious Disease Division of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences
  • Extramural support assistant at the Division of Central Grants Processing at the National Institutes of Health
  • Petty officer and clinical floor manager for the U.S. Navy Reserves

Angelo has served in the U.S. Navy in various positions since 2008 and has experience working at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Upon graduation, he plans to serve as a medical service corps officer in the U.S. Navy. Angelo decided to enroll in the MHA program soon after earning a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management from Southern Illinois University. He explained why he is interested in the MHA program at GW, stating, “I am excited about the meaningful use program and how we progress toward integration and transparency in health information exchange.”

Angelo’s favorite aspects of MHA@GW are the immersion experience, the teamwork and the diversity, including the different cultures and unique viewpoints of his fellow students and instructors. During his last immersion, Angelo had the opportunity to meet MHA faculty members and his classmates in person. “It was good!” Angelo said. “I gained a network of people who have great ideas and accomplishments in life.”

Outside of work and school, Angelo enjoys a variety of interests, including traveling, fishing, salsa dancing and marksmanship. He is a marathon runner and loves sports that give him an adrenalin rush, such as skydiving and bungee jumping.
