MHA@GW hosted a Health Systems Analysis immersion in San Diego Oct. 24–28, 2016. During the immersion, students examined and analyzed the structure, function and operations of a distinguished health system in Southern California. MHA@GW students gained a firsthand perspective of population health management and presented their findings.

Featured San Diego Health Systems

Students visited various health systems during the San Diego immersion, including:

  • UC San Diego (UCSD) Health, ranked the No. 1 health system in San Diego by S. News & World Report. UCSD is San Diego’s only academic medical center.
  • Kaiser Permanente, which offers comprehensive health care services including primary care, obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics.
  • Public Health Services, an organization that works to prevent epidemics and the spread of disease, protect against environmental hazards, prevent injuries, respond to disasters and assure the quality of health services throughout the county.
  • VA San Diego Healthcare System, which provides high-quality health care and compassionate services to more than 235,100 veterans in the San Diego area.

When students were not in working sessions, they had the opportunity to enjoy the sites and attractions in San Diego. Popular destinations in San Diego include the sandy beaches of La Jolla, Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo and the Gaslamp Quarter.
