3 Credits

The Health Systems Analysis immersion was held in San Antonio, Texas, on October 23–27. While in San Antonio, MHA@GW students visited and analyzed established health care delivery systems in the surrounding area. Students were also able to network with their peers and faculty as well as C-suite executives and other distinguished health management experts.

Featured San Antonio Health Systems

During the San Antonio immersion, students visited and examined the following health systems from the perspective of population health management:

  • University Health System, a teaching hospital ranked No. 1 in San Antonio and No. 12 in Texas
  • A Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)
  • A military hospital and veteran care center
  • A long-term care facility
“The objective of the San Antonio immersion is to give students an in-depth examination of one of the most interesting and diverse health systems in the nation. We will explore the interplay between military and civilian health care, for-profit and not-for-profit care and explore how services are delivered to low-income residents through a network of safety-net clinics.”

— Leonard Friedman, MHA@GW Program Director

Explore San Antonio

When not participating in immersion activities, students had free time to explore the history, beauty and culture of San Antonio. Immersion attendees could take a tour of the Alamo, stroll the Riverwalk, visit San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, or even go to a rodeo.
